The Overturning of Roe v Wade

On January 22, 1973, the Supreme Court ruled in the historic Roe v. Wade decision, upholding a woman's constitutional right to have an abortion . This case resolved that women in this country would be able to manage their own futures, make private and personal choices without political intrusion, and it also reemphasized fundamental equality principles and the fundamental right to privacy.

The landmark ruling in Roe v. Wade, which had declared access to abortions a constitutional right, was overturned by the US Supreme Court on Friday, June 24, 2022. That ruling eliminated women's legal protection and made it possible for states to control or completely eliminate the right to an abortion all together.

Abortion restrictions have already gone into effect in thirteen states. There are other states that are in the process. Abortion clinics in states where the procedure is still allowed are working to increase the number of appointments available by adding more clinic appointments and hiring more staff . Clinics in the states that are now in the process of the restriction are having an influx of patients as well.

Abortion restrictions will have an impact on the nation's most vulnerable, women who are already harmed by racism in the healthcare system, economic hardship, and an inability to obtain proper health care if any at all.

  1. Hi, I am not a big advocate of abortion but I do think there are circumstances women should have right to choose. The bigger danger is the safety of women who don't have access to safe procedures. Great post!
